Immersion Heater Sheath Material Compatibility Guide

Buying an immersion heater with the correct sheath material to match your application is crucial. Choosing the wrong sheath material for the fluid you're heating will cause the heater to fail. We always recommend choosing the "Best" sheath material for the fluid you're heating. It saves you money and production cost in the long run. If you're not sure what chemical you're heating, check with your chemical supplier. They should be able to supply you with a Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

  1. Caution! This is a potentially flammable material!
  2. This mixture of compounds has proportions or composition that can change. Confirm best sheath material with supplier.
  3. The composition or dilution can vary widely. Check with us for recommendations.
  4. Direct immersion heaters are not great for this. Use clamp-on heaters on a cast-iron pot or consult us for custom solution.
  5. Element surface loading should not exceed 20 watts per sqare inch.
  6. For concentrations greater than 15 percent, element surface loading should not exceed 15 watts per square inch.
  7. Concentrations vary widely. Consult your supplier for concentration information and OEM Heaters for specific advice.
  8. Remove any crusts or deposits at liquid level.
  9. Clean Often.
