Controls for Immersion Heaters
Controls for Immersion Heaters
Controls are required for all of the immersion heaters on our site. To make things easier, the controls that are designed for use with immersion heaters are compiled below. If you are not sure which control will be best with your application, please call and talk with one of our engineers at (866) 685-4443. We are more than happy to discuss your application and control needs.

Construction & Clamping Styles
Construction Styles
 |
Non- Expandable One-Piece Band Construction
The non-expandable design provides the most heated surface area. This style can only be used where it can be slipped over the end of the barrel. Features built-in full-width clamping bars. |
 |
Expandable One-piece Band Construction
The expandable one-piece design allows for easy placement along the machine barrel while minimizing the unheated area compared to a 2 piece band heater. This style is available with a dual voltage |
 |
Two-Piece Construction
Two-piece band heaters are ideal for applications where sliding the heater on the end of the barrel is difficult. Installation and removal takes minimal time and labor. Two-piece construction provides dual voltage capability. |
 |
Hinged Construction
The two-piece band heater is designed for applications where frequent installation and removal is necessary. The full-width hinge can be opened and closed as often as needed. The preferred method of clamping is latch and trunion. It is available with any screw terminal or lead wire variation. Watts and volts for each half must be determined when ordering. |
 |
Cut-outs and Holes
The purpose of the holes and cutouts in the MI-Plus band heaters is for thermocouples and obstructions on the machine. These cutouts should be kept to a minimum. In most cases, an oversized gap can take care of the obstruction or thermocouple issue. The heated area is decreased with cutouts resulting in higher watt density. If holes and cutouts cannot be avoided, send us a detailed drawing with your request. |
 |
Thermocouple and Bayonet Adaptors
Thermocoupling couples facilitate the installation of an external thermocouple with a threaded fitting.
The standard bayonet adaptor facilitates the installation of a thermocouple with a standard bayonet cap. The standard location is 90º from gap. |
Clamping Options
 |
MI-Plus Standard Built-in Clamping Strap
The built-in clamping strap will remain functional for the life of your MI-Plus heater. The steel clamping bars are the full width of the heater to distribute the forces evenly for superior heater contact. 1/4-20 alloy steel socket head cap screws are used to maximize the clamping power. Standard on all MI-Plus heaters 3" in diameter and larger with widths greater than 1"
Type NB- One-piece Band
Type NS- Two-Piece Band
Type NE- One-Piece Expandable band |
 |
MI-Plus Low Profile Built-in Clamping Strap
Used for applications where space is limited, this design saves space without compromising strength. This compact design uses 10-32 alloy socket head cap screws. Standard on all MI-Plus heaters less than 3" in diameter; Optional on MI-Plus heaters with 3" and larger diameters up to 6" in width.
Type LB- One-piece band
Type LS- Two-Piece Band
Type LE- One-Piece Expandable band |
 |
MI-Plus Outrigger Built-in Clamping Strap
This design is unique to 1" wide heaters 1-3/8" in diameter and greater. Two 8-32 alloy socket head cap screws are used to give 1" wide heaters the required clamping power.
Type OB- One-Piece Band
Type OS- Two-Piece Band |
 |
MI-Plus Separate Clamping Straps
The MI-Plus band can be built without built-in brackets. This is an option that allows a separate strap to properly clamp the heater. Separate straps are useful when clearance is limited or there is an obstruction. Separate straps are made to customer specifications only. Consult OEM Heaters for details.
Type SB- One-Piece Band
Type SS- Two-Piece Band
Type SE- One-Piece Expandable Band |
 |
MI-Plus Spring Loaded Built-in Clamping Strap
Standard on heaters over 8" in diameter and as an option on any heater with standard brackets. The extra heavy duty compression springs serve to combat thermal expansion of the heater by self adjustment. This ensures excellent contact between the heater surface and the barrel or die. This type of clamping is also useful on vertically-mounted heaters. Minimum Width: 1½", Minimum Diameter: 3½"
Type SL- One-Piece Band
Type NSL- Two-Piece Band
Type NEL- One-Piece Expandable Band |
